Tucson seems to be growing by leaps and bounds. BestCities.org analyzed data from thousands of cities across the United States. They ranked each city according to their scores in six different categories. In their final decision, Tucson ranked #20 on its America's Best Cities list.
Tucson Makes America's Best Cities Top 20 List
Methodology
BestCities.org created their America's Best Cities list by looking at six "pillars of place equity". By their definition, they are place, product, programming, people, prosperity, and promotion. "Place" relates to the city's environment. "Product" identifies their institutions, infrastructure, and attractions. "Programming" refers to arts and entertainment (including the culinary scene). "People" talks about the diversity of the residents. "Prosperity" pertains to employment. And, finally, "Promotion" looks at how often the city is positively talked about online.
Why Tucson Makes the List
Our year-round sunshine and outdoor activities placed our cities in the #10 position in the "Place" category. Our SunLink streetcar system impressed the judges because it helps decrease traffic noise and pollution. We skew younger in our demographic thanks in large part to the University of Arizona. Approximately one-quarter of our residents are aged 20 to 34. Since the University also brings in people from all over the world, our diversity scores ranked high as well. Plus, a large number of people fleed larger, more expensive cities like Phoenix and Los Angeles to settle in our fair city since the start of the pandemic. Our relatively better housing prices and lower cost of living made Tucson much more accessible. Finally, the investment into the development of our city's green and common areas impressed the judges at BestCities.org as well, helping place Tucson in the top 10 of America's Best Cities.
